Celtics swap Tristan Thompson at Hawks for Kris Dunn, items?

The Celtics swap veteran Big Man Tristan Thompson for the Hawks for guards Kris Dunn, Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-rounder Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN Tweets.

All of these players have expiring contracts. Thompson is set to make $ 9.7 million over the next season, while Dunn is raising a little over $ 5 million and Fernando is raising $ 1.8 million. The move pushes the Celtics another $ 3 million below the luxury tax threshold, tweeted ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Dunn had a player option in his contract and decided earlier this week on what made the trade profitable.

After nine seasons in Cleveland, Thompson played 54 regular season games with the Celtics, including 43 starts. He averaged 7.6 PPG and 8.1 RPG. The Hawks may see him as a solid second-unit option behind Clint Chapel.

Dunn’s only season in Atlanta was a loss due to an ankle injury. He appeared in just four regular season games, but gives the Celtics one more option for their back rotation with Kemba Walker be traded in this off-season.

Fernando, an early second-round pick in 2019, made 89 regular season games in his first two years in the league.
