Telangana invitations functions to arrange new bars

Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise Department issued a notice on Monday asking those interested to set up new bars.

Applications are asked to obtain prior approval for up to 159 additional bars. The final deadline for submitting applications is February 8th and each applicant must submit the form after paying a fee of Rs1 lakh, according to Excise Duty Director Sarfaraz Ahmad.

Of the total of 159 bars, 55 are located in the boundaries of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), 19 in the GHMC periphery and the rest in districts.

The bars will be allocated through a draw by the relevant collector in the districts on February 10th, while the Excise Duty Director in GHMC crosses the limits on February 11th. The successful applicant will receive a release copy on February 17th.

Interested persons can take part in the selection process by submitting a form together with three color passport photos and a self-certified copy of the Aadhaar or PAN card. Persons under the age of 21 and persons convicted under the Excise Tax Act of 1968 or who are not subject to excise tax or persons who have been determined to be insolvent by a competent court cannot file an application.

According to officials, the selected applicant should sign or attach his thumbprint against the corresponding entry in the confirmation register kept for this purpose. He should pay an amount equal to one-third of the total cash excise duty for the remainder of the license term within 90 days from the date of Challan’s prior approval or a draft application.

If the selected applicant fails to transfer one third of the total cash excise tax within the validity of the prior approval, an amount of Rs. 5 lakh will be charged as a penalty. A new draw would be held among the remaining applicants for the allocation of the bar.
