Members of the new Braunfels City Council are expected to discuss the proposed 2022 budget while City Manager Robert Camareno presents the plan, as well as the “no new revenue” and “voter approval” rates during a special workshop session at 4pm: 30 o’clock on Mondays.
Taxation units are required to calculate the non-new income tax rate, formerly known as the effective tax rate, and the voting rights tax rate, formerly known as the rollback tax rate, upon receipt of the certified appraisal list from the lead appraiser.
The tax rate excluding new income tax is the total tax rate required to generate the same amount of property tax revenue from the same property in both tax year 2020 and tax year 2021.
The voter registration tax rate is the highest tax rate the city can accept before a mandatory election is triggered.
Councilors are also expected to consider approving a proposed tax rate of 47.54 cents per $ 100 valuation, a decrease of 0.8 cents year over year. State law requires the city to hold a public hearing before councilors set the final tax rate.
Members are expected to consider September 9th as the date for this public hearing.
Council members also meet on Monday at 6 p.m. for their regular business meeting.
During this meeting, councilors are expected to propose proclamations for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National S’mores Day, paying tribute to “home hero” Cat Osterman. The former Texas Longhorn, along with her US softball teammates, recently won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Library Director Gretchen Pruett will also give a presentation on the library’s first Community Read program.
Among other things, during the session on Monday at 6 p.m., Councilors are expected to:
- Consider contracting with Data Projections, Inc. for audiovisual design, consulting, equipment, and installation services to support new buildings under construction under the 2019 bond program.
- Consider a contract with Avfuel Corporation to provide aviation fuel to New Braunfels Regional Airport.
- Consider entering into an agreement with Westnet, Inc. to purchase First-In Alerting Automated Voice Dispatch Systems for the No. 2 Fire Station, No. 3 Fire Station, and Police Headquarters.
- Consider appointing Tommy Carden and Jonathan Packer to the Workforce Housing Advisory Committee for an unexpired term ending November 11, 2022.
- Let us consider the first reading of an amendment to the ordinance to align the city administrator’s expenditure authority with the city statute as amended in the May elections.
- Consider the first reading of an ordinance amendment that aligns all conditions for the city council and commissions starting November 1st or June 1st.
- Consider the second and final reading of an ordinance on a planned zoning of approximately 2 acres in 696 Orion Dr., from “APD AH” Agricultural / Pre-Development, Airport Hazard Overlay District to “ZH-A AH” Zero Lot Line Home, Hazard Overlay District Airport.
- Consider the second and final reading of an ordinance on the planned rezoning of approx. 105 at 1621 FM 758 from Agriculture / Pre-Development, District to “ZH-A AH” Zero Lot Line, Airport Hazard Overlay District.
