North Dakota Senate Kills Pot Legalization, Tax Payments

Law360 (Mar 26, 2021, 8:17 p.m. EDT) – The North Dakota Senate has killed bills that would have legalized and taxed recreational cannabis after the State House approved the measures last month.

The Senate voted 37-10 Thursday against HB 1420, which would have allowed individuals 21 and older to buy and own up to an ounce of cannabis in a retail store. HB 1501, rejected 47-0, would have imposed a 15% tax on gross revenues from cannabis retailers and a 15% excise tax on the sale of cannabis products from a manufacturer to a retailer.
