Pune, January 8, 2021: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to end property tax reimbursement for 3,081 non-vermicomposting, rainwater harvesting and solar water heating devices.
The PMC introduced rain harvest, compost pit and solar panel system as part of the eco-housing project. The system was introduced in 2008. PMC had started offering a 5 to 10 percent discount on property tax.
There are currently 75,038 businesses that use discounts. During the inspection, the company found that 3081 establishments were not maintaining the units properly. Most establishments do not follow company instructions to recycle wet trash on their premises.
Dr. Kunal Khemnar, additional community commissioner, said: “According to the Minister of the Environment, Solid Waste Disposal Rule 2000, it is mandatory for bulk waste producers to process wet waste at the source. This law has been implemented across the state. The company had appealed many times before imposing a fine. “
“If corporations or institutions fail to do so, the company will take action and bill first-time beginners Rs 5,000. After the company determines that the company is not following, the company will charge Rs 10,000. On the third notification, the company will charge Rs 15,000. Despite three notices and fines, the company or entity that continues to break the rules will be charged Rs 15,000 each time, ”he added.
