José P. Barnola, Jr.

José P. Barnola Jr. joined Baker McKenzie in 1996 and became a partner in 2003. He is a senior member of the Venezuelan Tax Practice Group and advisor to the Tax Practice Group in Mexico and has extensive experience in tax advisory, transaction tax and tax litigation. José has authored over 30 legal articles on various legal and tax issues in Venezuela, the United States, Canada and Mexico (see list at https://www.linkedin.com/in/josepbarnolajr/) and has over 18 years of experience. Experience as a tax law professor. He has written and spoken on investment protection and tax planning, cross-border sales activities, company restructuring, VAT, tax disputes, employee taxation and other important topics related to the Venezuelan tax system. Since 2018, José has been in Baker McKenzie’s Mexico City office on a special temporary assignment providing complex planning and transactional investment protection and tax advice, particularly for the oil and gas industry, as well as tax disputes. José is the Latin American representative on Baker McKenzie’s Global Steering Committee for Tax Dispute Resolution, responsible for designing and executing the company’s global, regional and local strategic plans.
